World Highlights (by continent)
Africa
Camel Trecking through the Sahara Desert to go glamping with my fiends has got to be one of the biggest bucket-list items I have ticked off! It was an experience that will live long in my memory. It is also an adventure I would gladly repeat despite the 10 hour ride back to Marrakesh!
The drive there over the Atlas Mountains and the stop offs we made along the way were all unforgetable highlights in and of themselves too.
Anyone we met working in the tourist industry in Morocco all seemed super friendly, relaxed and welcoming.
America
Nantucket – otherwise known as ‘The Fairy-tale Island’. Famed once upon a time for its whaling industry, but now a place where CEO’s and celebrities alike choose to spend their summers! It lies 30 miles south of the Cape Cod coastline and is surrounded by endless miles of pristine beaches. Anyone lucky enough to visit this magical place for more than a day can watch the most dramatic sunsets light up the sky with pastel colours as they make smores with their toes in the sand.
Main Street, Nantucket is straight from a fairy-tale, with cobbled streets and shingled buildings housing cafés, bars and restaurants to suit every taste and budget. Connected to every beach by cycle paths or dirt roads, it is the most dreamy place I have ever been.
Asia
Ha Giang Loop – Can you imagine yourself driving a motorbike along roads like this for 5 days, staying with local people? I certainly couldn’t before I did it!
I purposely didn’t share pictures like this one with my mother until I had finished the journey! I knew that she wouldn’t sleep, thinking about it!
I think Asia is like that in general though, with cultures and ways of living that take western tourists right out of their comfort zones.
Having practised riding a motorbike in Thailand I figured it was time to throw myself in at the deep end when I arrived in Vietnam! And I’m so glad that I did because it was the only way to fully experience this jaw dropping scenery.
Europe
Skiing in the Alps has to be the ultimate European highlight. I have skied in the French, Italian and Austrian Alps and the feeling you get when you are above those jagged mountain tops and skiing under pine trees is one I still dream of.
My favourite holidays have been skiing holidays. Every day waking early, to watch the sunrise reflect on the snowy mountain tops. Skiing through mind blowing scenery, refueling on hot chocolate in a cozy cabin in the mountains and repeat. The closest thing to heaven I’ve ever seen.
If you’re not a skier or hate the idea of snowboarding, cross country skiing and trekking is very poplular in the European Alps- also a breathtaking way to visit this magical wonder up close and personal.
